only a busy week before christmas but -- temperatures in the 50s. a little bit of what we call over running rain on us. it will be mainly a morning event. it will turn very, very cold tomorrow. partly sunny and partly cloudy. here is sal. good morning. right now traffic is okay. there are some road work delays but for the most part the wet weather is going to make it tougher driving on this monday. let's take a look at the freeways here. 80 westbound looks pretty good. but clearly wet weather right now. and if you are just waking up and ginning us, you will see that traffic times will be longer today. try to make plans to leave the house early today. san mateo bridge traffic that looks okay heading out to the high-rise with no major problems. let's go back to the desk. today two victims in friday's deadly school shooting will be laid to rest. funeral services are planned

for six-year-old noah and jack pino. he was a big fan of victor cruz. yesterday cruz wore jack's name in their honor. noah is the youngest victim. he just turned six a couple weeks ago. >> the president traveled to newtop yesterday. there was a standing ovation for law enforcement who were able to get dozens of children safely out of the school. president obama read the names of the 20 children who were killed. he said he will do whatever possible to prevent shootings like this from happening again. >> i'm very mindful that mere words cannot match the depths of your sorrow nor can they heal your wounded hearts. i can only hope it helps for you to know that you're not

alone in your grief. >> outside the school and around new town there are memorials, candles, and teddy bears left by people who have traveled miles to honor the victims. the deadly shooting is bringing worries for those in the bay area. tara moriarty is live with what officials are trying to keep your kids safe. >> reporter: security is weighing heavily on the minds on public and private schools. a california superintendent is expect -- isn't expecting a lot of discussion in the matter. now all 1100 school districts are being told to review their safety plans. many schools are considering putting new safety measures into place including cameras, guards, fences, and so some cases metal detectors. >> i'm confident california schools are safe and administrators are doing an excellent job in assuring the

plans are fresh and up to date. >> reporter: some parents argue adding more security won't keep someone from entering a school. pointing out sandy hook elementary had a locked door into the school but the gunman shot his way through it. >> it's not going to stop somebody. that is their intention. they obviously think about it and then go do it. >> reporter: after the columbine shootings in colorado schools started doing armed intruder drills. you can expect those to increase. some districts are even talking about arming their educators. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >> and we'll have more coverage of the sandy hook school shooting throughout the morning coming up at 4:42 we are learning more information about the gunman and why the massacre could have been worse. plus the debate over gun control. what senator dianne feinstein plans to do to get a former law on the books.

in overnight news in san francisco a man was rescued after getting stuck in a chimney. it happened at about 11:30 last night at the heights apartment on clay street. >> i'm not sure exactly how he entered into the fireplace this time. we'll find out that a little farther upon more investigation. >> the man was rushed to the hospital. police have not released information on his condition. right now downed power lines are blocking part of a major highway in the north bay. crews say the silverado trail will be closed until around 7 cc this morning. overnight accident shut down all lanes in both directions. expect delays if you plan to drive in the area. we are still waiting to learn the identity of a man's body that was discovered along an east bay shoreline. park district police were notified of the body at about 11:30 yesterday morning.

authorities have not said whether the body could be that of a 77-year-old man who went missing last week. police have stepped up patrols along a popular hiking trail in alamo after a woman reported being raped. the woman told police she was walking on the trail last wednesday when someone pulled her down from behind. the man sexually assaulted her and then ran off. >> we've had additional patrols going on in the house both by helicopter and officers and volunteers on the ground. we also notified the park rangers who staff lost control of what occurred. >> he is describe as 5'10" and 180 pounds he is walking a brown and white dog. san francisco police continue to search for whoever shot and killed a teenager in the bay view district. the 18-year-old was shot around 10:00 saturday night on osceola lane. the man was driven to the hospital by a friend where he

was pronounced dead. his name has not been released. there are new safety concerns at chevron richmond refinery after the fire that sent thousands of people to hospitals a few months ago. chevron wants to replace the carbon steel pipe that failed in august with a new nine chrome alloy pipe. but the u.s. chemical safety board says that pipe led to a fire. the council will talk it over tomorrow. chevron warns it may have to lay off 600 workers if the plans are not approved by thursday. today is expected to be the busiest day of the year for the u.s. postal service. the postmaster predicts 665 million cards, letters, and packages will be processed today across the country. that is because holiday shoppers had the weekend to finish up finding any gifts that need to be mailed. next monday is christmas eve. only express mail will get packages to their destination now in time for christmas. >> the malls were packed. we did have to stop by over the weekend. wow.

on radar. the key though is tomorrow brutally cold air. the coldest we have seen in awhile. it's going right out of the gulf of alaska. cloudy, windy, light rain. especially tuesday night into wednesday morning. then it looks like things set up shop from thursday all the way into the weekend for cold rain. light rain this morning. windy, mild this afternoon. partly sunny, partly cloudy with hit and miss showers. the radar does not pick up all this but it stretches from lake county all the way into napa county. there is areas to the east bay and south bay. it's generally light rain drizzly is what i encountered on the way in. you can see santa rosa over to yountville. over to the north is what -- look at this cold air. this is making a beeline to us tomorrow. 50s on the temps with that strong southeast temperature. we've been cold to very mild to warm. even 50s to 30s in the mountains last week. we had single digits.

good morning. cloudy, windy, kind of light rain. that will be with us through the morning. very mild. not as cold as it was. look for partly sunny and partly cloudy today. we are learning more about the gunman behind friday's deadly school shooting at sandy hook elementary. authorities are saying he was heavily armed, fired hundreds of rounds of ammunition. in addition to an assault style rifle and two handguns authorities say he had another shotgun in his car. some of the victims were shot as many as 11 times. the connecticut shooting has prompted new calls for tougher gun control laws. dianne feinstein says she will introduce a new law on gun control. some say the better idea is to arm teachers. >> so when she heard gunfire

she pulls it out and she didn't have to lung heroicically with nothing in her hands. >> just the way we want america to go. in other words the rights of the few overcome the safety of the majority. i don't think so. >> feinstein successfully pushed through an assault weapons back back in 1994 but expired ten years later. democrats have tried several times since then to renew the ban without success. students at sandy hook elementary will return to class but if they do they will go to an unused school. that school will be ready by wednesday but no date has been set for the children to resume class. and police will be stationed outside that school. one official says he doubts students will ever attend sandy hook elementary again. a local church is planning an interface service tonight to reflect on last weeks mass

killings. the service will be at 7:00 at first presbyterian church in burlingame. local religious leaders and public school trustees will all attend the service which will include prayers, readings, and expressions of remembrance and hope. six fishermen were rescued after their boat started to sink. they called 911 after their boat started taking on water. they wouldn't be able to reach the men for about a hour so santa cruz harbor patrol deputies took off in their own boat and reached the men in 40 minutes. no one was hurt. house speaker john boehner is accepting a tax increase on people making more than $1 million a year. that falls short of president obama's to raise taxes on people making $250,000 or more.

pam and brian. you should try to leave the house earlier. we haven't had a lot of crashes out there. it's nice and light. but you never know what will happen later. you might want to give yourself extra time. let's take a look at 80 westbound. you can see traffic is still very light coming in from vallejo and berkeley and going over to the oakland area. unfortunately we tend to have more crashes and more incidents on days like today. let's move along and take a look at the approach to the bay bridge. it's very wet. in san jose along all the freeways you will see wet weather. it's 4:46 let's go to steve. sal, thank you. very active not only day but most of the week it looks like. in fact, today will be one of the warmest days of the week. tomorrow turns really cold. light rain will continue. you can see it's straight on getting enhanced here. very, very windy. cold air coming right down out over the gulf of alaska tomorrow. we'll make it tuesday and wednesday morning. could be the coldest we have seen in awhile.

50s and low 60s. a lot of mid 50s here. redwood city 50 degrees. thursday rain begins. we'll take it friday and maybe all the way into the weekend. >> i already thought it was cold. 4:48 is the time. standoff is under way outside of a topeka, kansas home where the suspect in a fatal shooting of two police officers is believed to be hiding. the officers were shot outside of a grocery store while responding to the report of a suspicious vehicle. candle light civil was -- vigil was held. at least two afghan workers were killed and 15 more were wounded in the suicide attack today outside the compound of a u.s. military contractor in afghanistan. the taliban has claimed responsibility for the car bombing outside the compound for contract. contract is a virginia based again that builds barics for

military bases. in egypt it appears a new controversial constitution is winning at the polls. first round of voting took place over the weekend. the yes vote was 57%. the no vote was 43%. another round of voting in rural areas is scheduled for next week. critics of the constitution says it's too islamist and ignores the rights of women. hundreds attended a memorial service for kim onill today. he is lying in state in the capitol city of peeon yang. they are programmed to

crash into a mountain near the north pole when they were nearly out of fuel. the information they have sent back has changed what scientists know about the lunar surface. good news for niners fans they are heading back to the playoffs. first they had to hold off the patriots who made a 28-point comeback in the second half. the patriots tied the game but the 49ers regained their lead in the next possession. 49ers won 41-34. they play seattle on sunday for a chance to win the nfc west. the oakland raiders snapped a six-game losing streak yesterday. they beat the chiefs 15-0 for their first shutout in ten years. no touchdowns were scored. the raiders won with five field goals. that was the home finale for oakland. the san francisco bulls

head to san jose tonight to help cheer up hockey fans suffering from shark withdrawal. the minor league bulls will play the stockton thunder at hp pavilion. more than 17,000 free tickets were given out to fans. the plan is to give sharks fans a little hockey fix and to give nearby businesses a boost in traffic during this nhl lockout. it has been really tough on businesses. it's been 14 years and the death of an east bay man remains unsolved. a shortage in napa. what grape growers need more of but may not be able to get until 2014.

welcome back. time now is 4:53. a reward is available after 14 years. 37-year-old rick was walking along second street in front of the family owned trucking company when police say a driver intentionally ran him over. that car is described as a late model '07s or '80s light colored cadillac with a dark top. his brothers is our colleague. a vigil will be held in san rafael to remember a woman who was killed four years ago.

ashley's body was found in the parking lot behind the fourth street tavern on december 16th, 2008. she had been raped and strangled. she was last seen the night before leaving the tavern with a man. that case remains unsolved. there is a $50,000 reward for information redialing to an arrest and conviction. napa valley grape growers are facing hugeshortage. there is not enough grapevine roof stock to replace as many vines as you need. growers -- that way the vines are more resistant to disease but also provide high quality fruit. nurses were taken by surprise by how many vineyards need grape root stock this year and many are sold out through next year. 4:54 is the time. back over to sal to check in. hopefully this could be a morning we have spinouts and fender benders. >> we do have those kind of things that happen. it will be a wet morning.

let's go outside and take a look at what we have now. as we look at the commute you can see traffic is relatively doing well even though it is raining out there. this is a look at interstate 880 north and southbound. also the morning commute on the golden gate bridge looks good. they are changing the lanes so you will see lane workers out there. make sure you slow down as you pass them. concord, pleasant hill, walnut creek no major problems here. 4:55 let's go to steve. very light rain continues. very mist light rain. very windy gusts 40-50 miles an hour. and it will be a day of very mild conditions but also rain. a lot of this does not show up on radar but it is there stretching from lake county into napa county all the way back from santa rosa, san rafael, highway 101 and highway 12. over to napa county and back over to fairfield. a little bit out in the east bay as well. kind of a misty drizzly. not as much toward the south
